Child Development Workshops
Teaching children who have been impacted by family and/or community trauma: Many children are diagnosed with ADD, ADHD, ODD, and OCD, and so much more! Some are diagnosed because of surfacing symptoms related to trauma. Community violence, poverty, and abuse are difficult areas of life for adults. The impact on children is much greater. Trauma symptoms can be present due to life experiences that are unfortunate such as a car accident, witnessing the harm or death of a loved one or a stranger, and multiple surgeries due to a medical condition. Learn how to identify trauma and how to address the needs of your students exposed to such circumstances.
Relaxation and concentration drills for staff and students: Everyone is on the go! School, sports, clubs, meetings, family events, etc. Relaxation is overlooked as a task to accomplish when so much can be done. Staying in the "here and now" via concentration is difficult because the focus is always on what needs to be done next. The moment is lost to the worry of the future. This workshop will address the importance of relaxation and reenergizing and how to focus on now rather than later.
Bullying, when it's more than kids just being kids: Kids can be mean. Kids fight. Kids develop cohorts. Bullying is different from normal social development. During this workshop, you will be exposed to the signs of bullying; how to reduce the possibility of such behaviors surfacing in your school; and what to do when it does present itself.
Meeting the needs of the adolescent: The life cycle stage of adolescence is unique and demanding for the teen, the parent, and the educator.Learn what goals and objectives are being sought during this stage; explore the typical and atypical for this age group; and how you can facilitate optimal growth and health for the adolescent you are assigned to teach.
