Embracing Families and Their Pets!
When the family dynamic includes man’s best friend, things can change in unexpected ways. Usually, the addition of a dog to the family ignites a spark of playfulness and joy. But sometimes change can come in unexpected ways, and a new four-legged family member can put a strain on relationships. Puppies can cost us hours of sleep. Untrained older dogs can create problems with the neighbors.
Dogs, like people, are individuals. They’re not all perfect. Most dog behavior problems are minor annoyances, but things like aggression or destructiveness must be taken seriously. Therefore, Embracing Family is pleased to announce a strategic partnership with Canine Dimensions, a Marlton-based company with certified dog trainers located throughout the Delaware Valley. Canine Dimensions trains dogs in their clients’ homes, specializing in obedience training and behavior modification.
Phil Guida, Canine Dimensions’ Director of Training, explains why problems with the family dog can sometimes require professional assistance. “It’s all about communication. Most behavior problems cannot be solved until you learn how to effectively communicate with your dog. Dogs communicate with each other using thousands of different signals that have been inherited from their ancestors, wolves. We don’t speak this language so problems can arise.”
“Dogs are pack animals, continually seeking to identify their place within the social structure. If a clear “Alpha” leader is not evident to the dog, he will often seek to assume this role himself. Many common behavior problems are symptoms of an underlying problem with the dog’s perception of his place in the family,” said Guida.
We are very excited about Embracing Family’s newest strategic alliance. Canine Dimensions is not your average dog training company. Their case histories include families with autistic children, helping people introduce a family dog to a new baby, training blind dogs, training deaf dogs and helping families with shelter adopted dogs who may have been victims of abuse or neglect.
